The Squidoo Giant Greeter program has proven to be a huge success and we wanted you to get to know our Greeters a little better so, Patti (GypsyPirate) interviewed our first three Greeters: Christene, Noadi, and ThomasC...and stay tuned for more interviews from our newest Greeters!
Christene
How long have you been a Lensmaster on Squidoo?
I've been a Lensmaster for about a year and a half. I joined Squidoo on February 6th 2007.
What was your first lens - has it changed since you first published it?
The first lens that I made was Plum Island.
Oh sure, it's changed. As I learned about different modules I'd think
of how to incorporate it into the lens. I also added a lot more images.
That lens was the reason I first joined flickr.
Can you describe your personality in five words?
That's harder than it sounds! Um...perfectionistic, energetic, helpful, honest, and considerate.
Do you have another passion, other then being a Lensmaster?
Well, I love music, I love dancing, and I love my little family.
What's your favorite topic to write about?
Most of my lenses are kid related. I get interested in topics through
my 7 year old daughter. I'm a big kid anyway, but I'll use her as an
excuse. ;) But the one thing I really enjoy is sharing my experiences
as an only child, and as the mother of one. It's a topic that a lot of
families, especially mothers, are curious about, and have concerns
about. I like helping parents see that it's not only ok, but can be
great. It's actually the topic of a board I host on another website. My
lens is Only Children.
What do you think are important qualities in a Giant Squid, and/or in a Giant Squid's lenses? Be involved in the Squidoo community and write about things you have interest in...everything you have interest in. What's the one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out on Squidoo? Don't get discouraged if your first payment is only a nickel, or if you can't get into the top 100 in lensrank. Keep at it, take everything in, and keep building lenses.
Noadi
How long have you been a Lensmaster on Squidoo? Since May 2007. Started just as a way to promote my artwork and then got addicted. What was your first lens – has it changed since you first published it? My very first lens was Noadi's Art Fantasy Sculpture and it's changed quite a bit, at first it really just had links to my sites and photos of my sculptures, since then I've added a lot more information, sculptures for sale, how to commission a sculpture, and a few other things.
Can you describe your personality in five words? Weird, geeky, creative, cephalopod lover. Which came first: Squidoo or cephalopod lover? Cephalopod lover, I actually came across Squidoo while looking for stuff about squid.
Do you have another passion, other then being a Lensmaster? Sculpting and jewelry design, of course. My many pets (including a llama). I also love food and cooking. What's your favorite topic to write about? Sculpting and polymer clay in particular. Introduction to Sculpting in Polymer Clay is one of my favorites because I wrote it as a guide for beginners.
What do you think are important qualities in a Giant Squid, and/or in a Giant Squid's lenses? Creativity and willingness to do research on your topics is pretty big. Probably also some stubbornness to keep going.
What's the one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out on Squidoo? Take your time to learn the ropes and don't feel shy about asking for help, SquidU is full of helpful people.
ThomasC
How long have you been a Lensmaster on Squidoo?
I joined Squidoo on Jan. 30th 2008.
What was your first lens - has it changed since you first published it?
My first lens was my Bruce Lee lens. It has received constant updates as I learned all the neat little html tricks you could do to a lens!
Can you describe your personality in five words? Polite, helpful, loving, caring, dedicated
Do you have another passion, other then being a Lensmaster? My first passion is my 4 cafepress stores! I love making designs and people liking my artwork enough to purchase a t-shirt or other gift! I have to admit, Squidoo has pretty much taken over my internet time! I occasionally make new designs and add to my stores though! Last month I earned more money through Squidoo than Cafepress!
What's your favorite topic to write about?
Well I have ventured into several different topics like Martial Arts ( I use to practice Shorin Ryu Karate), rock bands, song lyrics, and my favorite recipes. My personal favorite topic to write about is rock bands! Namely my favorite band of all time... Motley Crue. I am now the proud owner of 76 lenses about Motley Crue!
What do you think are important qualities in a Giant Squid, and/or in a Giant Squid's lenses?
Giants are very dedicated people. Plus they are very helpful. I think you can pretty much find most Giants at the SquidU forums. Giants know how to create quality lenses. I don't think you will find one Giant with a default title in any of their lenses!
6) What's the one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out on Squidoo?
Find your niche and cover it from every single angle you can think of. Put each angle for that niche in it's own lens! Why have just 1 lens, when you can have thousands!!!!
