Is Imagination More Important Than Knowledge?

E Lensmaster enslavedbyfaeries wants to know if Is Imagination More Important Than Knowledge?

I think that imagination is the key to being knowledgeable. If you all you had was knowledge you'd be nothing more then a books a facts, able to spit out answers without being able to interpret or understand them. You'd be a robot, devoid of human qualities.

Is This FREE?

1_2Lensmaster Arizona-Snow wants to know Is This FREE? and I want to know too! There is nothing worse then reading a cool website about some really neat FREE product and then realizing that it's not "Really" FREE. From "Buy-one, Get-one" deals to "it's free but you pay the shipping" scams make me want to scream. If you say something is FREE, then gosh darn it you better deliver! OK...I'm done with today's rant. Now stop on over to Arizona-Snow's Hey MonkeyBrain debate and put in your two cents on what FREE really means!

Would You Rather Be Praised or Paid?

RmsLensmaster rms want to know if you Would You Rather Be Praised or Paid? I look at it this way. Everyone needs some sort of job satisfaction in order to be happy in the work world. Think about it!

What if someone paid you $25 per hour to work on an assembly line. You job was to hammer a peg into a board. Now this is ALL you did for 8-10 hours a day. You get 2 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch. There is no deviation from your task, it's a boring and mind numbing job and no one appreciates you! Could you do it?

Yes, you could...for about a month or so. Yes the money is nice, but could you keep this up indefinitely? Probably not. You'd want more. When I was in college I worked at a coupon factory for about 2 weeks. I put 10 coupons into an envelope 1000 times a day. I only made $8 per hour but it got me thinking. What if they paid me $25 per hour, could I do it? I could for a while even if I got paid the extra money I would go stark raving mad. I think this is why these jobs pay so little. They know turnover is high so why bother investing in an employee by giving them more money.

I'm not sure if I need praise but I do need job satisfaction. Maybe it's not so much praise, but pride in knowing what you are doing is worth while. You've got to love what you do in order to be happy. To me that's more important then the money.

Want Less Crime? Add More Guns!

GLensmaster pyle_mountain says if you Want Less Crime? Add More Guns!. I'm not sure I agree with this statement. When our forefathers allowed us the right to bear arms they were talking about rifles not AK-47's. While I do support the right of a human being to defend their family I also see guns as a huge danger to kids, pets and neighbors. There are just to many stories of accidental shootings involving a gun that was meant to protect. We just had one today in Cleveland where a 15-year-old boy brought a gun into the home and his 10-year-old brother found the gun and accidental killed their sister. That's what guns do. In the wrong hands they kill innocent people and about 95% of the people who own guns don't use or store them properly.

Most guns used for self-defense end up killing or injuring the wrong person. Ask your self if you could use a gun properly if an intruder broke into your home. Could you get to the gun fast enough? Could you shoot the intruder? These are some good questions to ask yourself before you buy a gun. What do you think about this issue?

Google is Trying to Take Over the World

EarthLensmaster hmsweaver says that Google is Trying to Take Over the World! Yikes, sounds like a bad horror movie. The truth is, like Mircosoft, I do think that Google is trying to take over the world. The question remains...is the Google Monster a good monster or a bad one? Tell hmsweaver what you think!

Sex Education NOW!

R_12Lensmaster Orthia challenges us to take a good honest look at Sex Education in this country. I am all for programs that promote safe sex and teach young people how to prevent disease and unwanted pregnancy. Sex education is just that...education, it does not promote sex. By giving young people the FAQ's about sex we are sending the message that we respect their ability to understand and control their own bodies. Disagree? Back up your claim with some links and a vote!

We need to be pro-aging instead of anti-aging

R_16Lensmaster purplelady poses an interesting debate. I whole-heartily agree that we have become a nation that thrives on youth and beauty. With botox, body-lifts and lipo, elective procedures have become the norm. While I understand that people want to look beautiful it's just a facade. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Our society needs to shift our focus off of trying to "look" better and start valuing people for their accomplishments. We should be proud of our wrinkles, we earned them! I love comedian Ron White's saying "You can't fix stupid"...I say its better to have a brain then Botox!

Smoking should be banned in ALL public places

R_22This Hey MonkeyBrain! debate is run by lensmaster Christine.

I HATE smoking. It's dirty, smelly and just a nasty habit so I fully support banning smoking in all public places.

Cowabunga!

Btn_heyI love to debate so I figured what better way to start some tongues wagging then a blog. However the problem with a blog is that people can only leave a comment and the debate gets a little convoluted because you can't tell who's on what side. Solution? Hey MonkeyBrain!

Hey MonkeyBrain! was created by the fabulous people at Squidoo to provide a really awesome place to debate. The interface allows you to start a duel with both sides of the argument running neck-and-neck. As if that wasn't cool enough you can also create a "Links List Plexo" to support or disprove your claim and have people add new links to the list!

But wait there's more...I feel like Bob Barker. Hey MonkeyBrain! also allows you to add YouTube Videos, Flickr Photos, Polls, Sell Products (you get cash or you can donate to charity), other Squidoo lenses...the possibilities are endless.

Integrating Hey MonkeyBrain! with your blog is like adding hot fudge to your vanilla ice cream. It's making something great even greater. It's exhilarating...Cowabunga!

So enjoy these Hey MonkeyBrain! debates...I love a good argument. Let me know what you think then go create your own!
