Well the dog is gone. In case you haven't been following along we got a Beagle puppy yesterday because my daughter loves dogs. He was adorable and when we got him home things seemed to be going well...until about 11pm. I am an Asthma sufferer, I have been my entire life but I mostly have my symptoms under control. I have also been a dog owner but have not had one for about 20 years. Since my Asthma has been fine I foolishly thought that I could handle a dog. Wrong! I had a full blown attack last night. Geesh!
Of course between the wheezing and gasping I tried to convince myself that it was the weather or the phase of the moon or even something I ate. Wrong again, I knew it was the dog and I knew right then and there that the dog would need to go. So this morning we packed up poor Mr. Noodle with his Puppy Chow, the vet records (I took him yesterday) and his leash and returned him back to his owner. His mother and brother looked quite pleased to have him back and he barely gave me a passing glance.
So we're now home with the air cleaner on high in my newly cleaned and dog free house and thankfully Asthma free. The only impact it had my daughter was a confused look and the statement, "Where's doggy?". I explained that the doggy had just been visiting but was now home with his family to which she replied "Ok" and started coloring. Still I feel like a bad parent. I know how much fun it is for a kid to have a dog and I am a little depressed that my daughter will miss out on that.
The moral of the story...if you've got Asthma or allergies RUN from the dog, no matter how cute he is! Hmmm...I wonder if I'd be allergic to Elmo?
